Moffatt Thomas attorneys Christine E. Nicholas, Norman M. Semanko and Andrea J. Rosholt were honored for their significant accomplishments as Leaders in Law at the annual award ceremony sponsored by the Idaho Business Review.

On November 17, 2016, more than 150 Idaho legal professionals gathered to honor the 21 chosen “Leaders in Law” of 2016. Each year the Idaho Business Review’s Leaders in Law award event recognizes those who are exceptional in their profession.  Every applicant is rated on their individual accomplishments, leadership skills, volunteerism and community involvement through a peer review process.

christineChristine E. Nicholas was honored as Firm-Associated Partner.  Ms. Nicholas has served on the Moffatt Thomas Board of Directors since 2014, and in 2015 she was elected President of the law firm for a three-year term.  Originally from Massachusetts, she fell in love with Idaho as a child visiting the Stanley Basin on family vacations.  After obtaining her bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts, Ms. Nicholas decided to move to Idaho where she obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho College of Law.  Initially she was unsure which path she would take; it was her love of problem solving that led her to become a seasoned business, real estate and finance attorney.  She is quoted by the Leaders in Law publication stating, “I wanted to be a business lawyer, help clients buy and sell businesses, to buy, sell and develop commercial real estate.  I like to put things together.” Her greatest accomplishments thus far, in addition to her role as President at Moffatt Thomas, have been being named a Fellow in both the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and the American College of Mortgage Attorneys.  In 2009 Ms. Nicholas received the Burton Award for Legal Excellence at a Library of Congress ceremony featuring Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

normNorman M. Semanko joined Moffatt Thomas as Of-Counsel in 2011, and he was recently elected as a partner in the firm effective January 1, 2017.  In this new status, Mr. Semanko will lead the firm’s Water Law and Natural Resources/Environmental Law practice groups. His exposure and interest in natural resource issues began early in his career when he worked for Congressman Larry Craig.  Mr. Semanko is highly involved in the political arena and served as chairman of the Idaho Republican Party and as a Councilman of the City of Eagle.  Mr. Semanko was named Executive Director and General Counsel of the Idaho Water Users Association in 2000 where he managed the day-to-day operations of the association, monitored current water issues, analyzed federal and state legislation and regulations, advocated in the Idaho State Legislature, before Congress, and in federal, state and local agencies, and organized educational seminars and workshops.  Today he is recognized as one of Idaho’s leading experts on water policy.

andreaAndrea J. Rosholt was honored as an Up and Coming Lawyer.  Ms. Rosholt is an Idaho native whose multi-faceted practice focuses on commercial litigation, business law, tax law, and estate planning.  After receiving her Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University School of Law, Ms. Rosholt enrolled in an intensive nine month master of law program at the University of Washington School of Law.  Equipped with her education and experience, Ms. Rosholt’s knowledge has proven to be a great asset to her clientele.  In the Leaders in Law publication, Ms. Rosholt discusses one of her greatest professional accomplishments where in 2015 she argued an employment law case in front of the Idaho Supreme Court.  Her clients were pleased with the favorable outcome.  Recently, she discovered a new passion for legislation while serving as outside counsel for the Idaho State Board of Accountancy.  During the upcoming Idaho legislative session she  plans to advocate for a bill she helped propose.

The Leaders in Law award, presented by the Idaho Business Review, recognizes the qualities of experience, dedication, hard work, skill, tenacity, excellence and compassion.  The award is dedicated to those individuals whose leadership, both in the legal profession and in the community, has had a positive impact on Idaho.
