John W. Barrett

Mr. Barrett joined Moffatt Thomas in 1959 and focuses his practice in the areas of workers' compensation representing insurance companies and self-insured employers, providing insurance coverage analysis for clients, and most recently acting as an arbitrator in personal injury and disability cases.

He lectures regularly on workers' compensation issues to various organizations, professional associations, and Idaho State Legislative Committees as well as presenting in-house seminars for a number of companies. Mr. Barrett was chairman of an Ad Hoc Committee formed to review federal and state Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) laws and draft amendments to effect the ADA under Idaho law. He also served as chairman of an Ad Hoc Committee to review and submit proposed legislation to amend various workers' compensation statutes. During the 1996 Legislative Session, Mr. Barrett was heavily involved in the passage of the Farm Workers' Bill and subsequently served on a committee formed by Idaho State Governor, Phil Batt, to present information regarding the Farm Workers' Bill to the agricultural industry throughout the state of Idaho.

Mr. Barrett is an active member of several legal organizations including the American Bar Association, Idaho State Bar, American Inns of Court, No. 130., Fourth District Bar Association, for which he served as president in 1975-1976, Idaho Association of Defense Counsel, of which he was one of the founders in 1964, International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions, and the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. He is also a past member of the Idaho Governor’s Advisory Committee to the Industrial Commission of the State of Idaho and served a six-year term on the Idaho Judicial Council. Mr. Barrett is a recipient of the 2006 Idaho State Bar Professionalism Award. He is a past chairman and member of the Idaho Industrial Commission Advisory Committee. Mr. Barrett is a past president of the Idaho Quarter Horse Breeders Association and served on its Board of Directors. He has been selected by his peers to be included in The Best Lawyers in America® since the 2001-2002 edition

He received both his undergraduate and law degree from the University of Idaho. Mr. Barrett is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of Idaho, and the Supreme Court of the State of Idaho.
